Webster Green: Benjamin Moore's 2027 Colour of the Year, on Kitchen Cabinets

Oct 23
3 min read

Every fall, the big paint companies name their Colour of the Year — and homeowners start picturing their kitchens in it. On October 14, Benjamin Moore announced its 2027 pick: Webster Green HC-130, a rich, classic green drawn from its Historical Collection.

And Benjamin Moore isn't alone. Green is the story of 2027 almost everywhere you look: Sherwin-Williams chose a fresh green called Celery, Dulux went with Soulful Sage, and Canada's own BeautiTone (Home Hardware) picked a soft pink named Rosewater from its Echoes of Earth palette. When this many companies land in the same colour family, it's worth a closer look — especially on cabinets.

Why Webster Green works in a kitchen

Webster Green is a true, saturated green — Benjamin Moore describes it as balancing "reassuring stability with optimistic energy," and it comes out of a collection built on 18th- and 19th-century colours. That heritage is exactly why it suits cabinets: it's deep without being trendy-loud, and it reads as furniture, not fad.

Where it earns its keep:

  • On an island or the lower cabinets, paired with soft white uppers. Benjamin Moore's own 2027 palette includes White Down OC-131, a cozy off-white made to sit beside it. Two-tone kitchens are the natural home for a colour this confident.

  • With warm metals. Brass and gold hardware against deep green is the combination all over the design coverage, and it works because the green makes warm metal look richer.

  • With wood and stone. Green flatters oak and walnut tones and sits comfortably next to white quartz or marble-look counters — common in the renovated kitchens we refinish across Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.

The finisher's notes

A few things the announcement photos won't tell you:

Dark colours are somewhat unforgiving. Darker greens can show flaws in the surface easier. On cabinets, this is where preparation and a properly sprayed, cabinet-grade finish stop being a luxury and start being the whole job.

Light changes everything. Webster Green in a bright, south-facing kitchen is a different colour from Webster Green in a north-facing one, where it will go moodier and darker. Any strong colour deserves a sample on an actual door, in your light, before you commit.

Trend versus tenure. Benjamin Moore's whole case for this pick is that green has shown up in every decade for a century — forest, emerald, mint, avocado — and never fully left. That's a better pedigree than most colours of the year get. Still: a full kitchen in a saturated colour is a commitment. If you love it, do it properly. If you're on the fence, the island is your test drive — one piece of furniture, full effect, easy to change later. And if you're painting to sell soon, our post on cabinet colours that help sell your home is the more cautious read.
