How Much Does It Cost to Paint Kitchen Cabinets?

The straight answer: full service begins at $3,000 + tax

At Spray It Like New, professional full-service cabinet painting begins at $3,000 + tax. That includes all labour and materials. For homeowners who want to do the in-home portion themselves, our DIY option starts at $1,400 + tax and includes the materials and tools needed for the customer’s use. Materials average about $400 per kitchen.

Those are starting prices, not one-price-fits-all promises. Your final quote depends on the size and design of your kitchen, the number of doors and drawer fronts, the condition of the existing finish and the extra work your project needs. You can review the full cabinet-painting price list before you contact us. We believe you should understand the pricing structure before anyone asks you to book.

What moves a cabinet-painting price up or down

The biggest factor is the amount of cabinet surface that must be prepared and finished. A kitchen with more doors, drawer fronts, gables, crown moulding and detailed panels takes more work than a simpler layout. The design matters, not only the room’s floor area.

Condition matters too. Grease, flaking areas, damaged edges and an old finish that needs careful preparation can add labour before the new coating is applied. A major colour change may also require more attention to coverage and detail. Our cabinet-painting process explains why cleaning, sanding, sealing and curing are part of the job rather than optional extras.

Then there are project choices: filling old hardware holes, drilling a new handle pattern, preparing hinge holes, adding a kick plate or replacing doors that are no longer suitable to refinish. If the cabinet boxes are sound but the door style or condition is holding the kitchen back, replacement cabinet doors can be quoted as a separate option.

Our per-piece menu shows where the total comes from

Transparent pricing gives you a useful way to understand the scope of your kitchen. The prices below cover both sides and edges where applicable. Your final project price still depends on the complete kitchen and its condition, but the menu shows how individual pieces are valued.

The cheapest quote can become the expensive choice

A low total is attractive, but cabinet painting is not just the colour coat you see on installation day. The value is in the complete system: proper cleaning and surface preparation, a compatible primer, a cabinet-grade coating, controlled application and enough time for the finish to cure. If a quote leaves out stages or substitutes general-purpose retail paint for a cabinet finishing system, the initial saving can disappear in touch-ups or premature repainting.

Ask what products will be used, what preparation is included and how the finish is cured. Our explanation of 1K and 2K cabinet coatings shows why a label by itself does not tell the whole story. The related guide to how long painted cabinets last explains why durability depends on the entire finishing system and how the kitchen is cared for afterward.

Accountability matters as much as product. Spray It Like New is owner-operated and never subcontracted. Tracy Sauer oversees the work, and Adam is our dedicated in-home finisher for the cabinet boxes. If you are comparing quotes, use our questions for choosing a cabinet-painting company to compare who will do the work, what is included and what is put in writing.

Painting can deliver the change without full replacement

When your cabinet boxes are structurally sound and the existing layout works, painting lets you keep the kitchen you already have while changing its colour and finish. It costs a fraction of full cabinet replacement because you are not removing and rebuilding the entire room.

Replacement still makes sense when the layout no longer works or the cabinetry is not worth keeping. There is also a middle ground: retain solid boxes, replace selected doors or drawer fronts and finish the visible surfaces as one coordinated project. The right recommendation should follow the condition of your kitchen—not force every homeowner into the same package.
